I entered the grocery store and couldn’t help but notice a growing number of African American/ Black women and girls sporting their night bonnets, pajamas, and house slippers. While I typically didn’t think much of this sight before, on this particular occasion, I found myself feeling unsettled by the trend. As a Black woman myself, I had grown accustomed to seeing women in public with their bonnets, but the recent surge in oversized, elaborately decorated, and brightly colored bonnets struck me as a fashion statement that was spiraling out of control.Delving into a realm of literature, I embarked on a quest to discover books that focused on etiquette specifically tailored for Black women. To my surprise (or not), I encountered a noticeable absence of such resources, leaving me with a sense of frustration and a realization that there was (and still is) a gap that needed to address the absence of etiquette guides specifically catered to the unique experiences and cultural nuances of Black women. While, this book is tailored for Black women and girls, etiquette should be available to all women, regardless of their background or ethnicity. Every woman should have the opportunity to learn and embody the qualities of a lady.Etiquette is far more than a set of rules; it is a lifestyle that shapes our interactions, behaviors, and perceptions of other. Etiquette plays an important role in fostering positive social interactions and relationships. It helps to set the tone for communication, professionalism, and courtesy.
