'Sacred Wisdom of the Ancient Grandmothers' is an update of the original book, 'Black Plume's Weasel People, the Last Bastion of Native Ways' that had two publications in 2002 and 2004. That book was created on the Flathead Reservation in Montana and the Kainai 'Blood' Reserve in Canada. The elder, Black Plume, great-grandson and grandson of two medicine women who were in the Buffalo Society of sacred Kainai women, revealed their knowledge to Ms. Oakley through the oral tradition for two years before the book was published. They met while on the PowWow Trail in the high plains of the U.S. and Canada as they were both traditional native dancers. Black Plume promised his grandmothers he would bring their tribal people back into power as they intuitively knew they would forget their customs and traditions eventually endeavoring to be accepted by caucasian society. Not a native English speaker or writer, the elder gentleman's frustration grew as he was getting on in years and had not fulfilled his promise to his elders and indeed he saw their prediction had come true.When he saw Sharon "Spirit Dancer" Oakley in the arbor dancing, he felt his grandmothers nudge him to meet her, and she reminded him of them both. Their friendship resulted in their partnering on the PowWow Trail and Ms. Oakley writing the book for the gentleman. But some of the information was not complete or entirely accurate in the rush to get the book out to the indigenous population. For another five years after that publication, the elder gentleman continued to advise Ms. Oakley in the oral tradition of the sacred knowledge of his grandmothers. He has since joined his family in the afterlife.
